InfinitusIn developmentv0.1.0
A 3D chess-like strategy game, rebuilt in 2026 in Unity. It is not standard chess. The pieces are persistent characters with names, experience, levels and a history that follows them from match to match, and how a piece moves is defined in data rather than hard-coded.
The pieces
Thirty-three piece types, six spells and four board objects, in nine families, one per realm. A piece you own is yours everywhere: it earns experience in matches, levels up, and keeps a record of its deeds. Mages gain a ward as they level, builders raise walls from a labour pool, and some pieces can only do certain things once they have reached a level.
You are your king. Fifteen kings, each with a temperament, a personality and a voice that speaks in the match about what is happening. The king's level is the team's level, and it sets how much you can field.
The campaign crosses the nine realms of Norse myth, laid out as the world tree. You start in Midgard and work outward along its roads, down through the mists to the dead beneath, and up toward Asgard, which only opens once every road has been walked. Ragnarok waits at the edge of the map.
Each realm has its own pieces, its own light and sound, and its own fights. What you win there comes home with you.
Ways to play
- Campaign
- Authored fights across the nine realms, priced in points, with the crown at the end.
- Against the AI
- A minimax opponent with a temperament you can turn: how far it searches, how often it blunders, and what style it prefers.
- Online
- Rooms through a relay, with accounts, forfeit by silence, and verdicts settled on the server. Finished matches can be replayed.
- Sandbox
- Any pieces on any board, both seats in hand, nothing banked.
- Tutorial
- A five-move match on the real engine that ends in checkmate.
- The market
- Fixed-price listings and sealed auctions between players, paid in Aurar, with packs and a purse kept on the server.
The rules engine is plain C# with no scene attached. It runs headless, on a worker thread for the AI, and in tests. Every move is generated from board state alone, every effect undoes exactly, and a seeded random source makes a match deterministic, so replays and per-turn hashes hold. Screens render; they do not decide. Online play and the vault that holds each player's pieces and coin run on Unity Gaming Services cloud code. More than 1,200 edit-mode tests guard it, and some of them fail on purpose when the design documents drift from the code.

Playable builds exist for PC and Android. Nothing is public yet. The PC game is planned for Steam; no store page exists. Screenshots will follow the art pass.
An earlier browser prototype is written up on the blog: Infinitus: Wrapping WebGL in a React Component.
